Are You a Victim of the Laurel Bay Contamination?

Find Justice Now with our Beaufort Personal Injury Attorneys!

Investigations are currently underway to determine the extent of the damage caused by the Laurel Bay contamination, which occurred at two military bases. What has been evident is that the contamination incident may have been brewing just under the surface for decades, with little precaution given to families and those living nearby of the possible dangers lurking.

For those who have suffered harm, serious injury, or have become terminally ill due to the Laurel Bay contamination, we urge you to contact Bauer & Metro, P.C. and our Beaufort personal injury attorneys as soon as possible to discuss what legal recourse you might have in this matter.

Life-Threatening Illnesses from Laurel Bay Contamination

Military families who have been stationed at the Marine Corps base near Laurel Bay in South Carolina may not have been initially aware of the health hazards posed to their families. What many did not realize, sadly, was that the oil tanks that were positioned underground were most likely the culprit. The tanks had been placed underground to drive heat to older homes in the area.

A leaky oil tank could leach an immense amount of contaminants, such as:

  • Benzene
  • Tetrachloroethylene (PCE)
  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • Vinyl chloride

The effects quickly became apparent, as the underground tanks were leaking gasoline, oil, and a whole host of other chemicals into the soil. Civilian families, as well as families with loved ones serving in the Marines, have developed life-threatening illnesses. As of late, several families have shared the desire to obtain justice and restitution for the contamination incident. There have been reports of individuals who have been diagnosed with serious or terminal illnesses, including cancer and leukemia. One report finds that it may be no less than 13 children or 20 adults who have been diagnosed with cancer from Laurel Bay.

Some of the other effects of the Laurel Bay contamination include:

  • Birth defects
  • Cancer
  • Developmental defects for children
  • Life-changing conditions

What is currently coming under fire is determining whether or not the government was aware of the contamination, and whether it took adequate measures to protect people. The investigation could call into question whether or not the government was proactive enough to prevent harm, such as periodic testing for contamination.

It can affect your job and many other things due to not being able to operate a vehicle. In no way am i condoning drinking and driving, but let's face it, everyone makes mistakes. I was terrified!
